The Last 10 days – the last one!

Cruces Basin Wilderness Area Trails Ok super brief.  I also explored Cruces basin Wilderness in northern new mexico.  went by the los pinons campground, hard to find info on, but yet very popular.  cruces basin was one of the most beautiful places in the world.  nothing particularly dramatic in scenery, mostly large open fields, surrounded by mountains, with groves of aspens clustered throughout.  i walked down into one of the groves.  it was so pure and clean and peaceful, i felt completely safe, completely at ease.  it felt like i belonged there, and almost like a fairy tale it was so surreal.  i found lots of mushrooms growing on cow dung – magic mushrooms?

they look like them, but theres alot of little brown mushrooms.

i took some and made spore prints – they are black.  anyone know?

i took some pictures but i cant seem to find any of my cruces basin pics right now for some reason.

since its a pretty remote wilderness area, there werent many trails and the roads are in quite bad condition.  there was one campground, los lagunas i think it was called, split into upper and lower campgrounds, with a lake between them. again several times i pushed my luck with mostly deserted, very rutted, very muddy roads.  but i made it! and it was exhilarating.

so yes, very very brief and not detailed but i love cruces basin and definitely definitely want to spend lots of time there.

i was all ready to go pick up eric, but his first flight got cancelled due to bad weather in atlanta where his connecting flight was.  the next day, he got to the airport at 5am to get another flight, which he thought he had until late that afternoon when that one got cancelled as well.  he went back a few days later and finally got on a flight, but then it was delayed several hours.  what a mess.

when i was waiting in the “cell phone waiting area” parking lot at the airport for him to land and get his luggage, i was appalled to see this other car there which sat there with it running the whole time.  i mean like 1.5 hours..

i was sooo tempted to go up and knock on the window and say “hey if you can afford to leave your car running all this time – give me $10 instead and turn it off”

i wish i had done that. shit people are crazy.

i was so horribly exhausted, even driving down i struggled to keep my eyes open at 8pm.  so i made eric drive back and he was all loud and hyped up lol.  i could see the connecticutness in him, his driving was aggressive and impatient, his coice was very loud and boisterous, he seemed almost drunk even tho he was sober.  he was cocky and cursing like crazy.  the next day tho he seemed to be settling back into colorado life and i like it much better.  ive been okay with him  so far, im still kinda flustered on what to do about the jealousy thing but it hasnt gotten to me much yet.  i think i got alot out of my system by pushing myself so much while he was gone. even tho almost every day i felt sick and tired, i forced myself to go out and do tons of stuff because i felt like it was my only chance to do what i really wanted to do and define myself separately from eric and have experiences that are all my own.
